Varying from the "traditional" Parasol Duelling, SWFL SteamCon's Parasol Duelling is open for all genders to participate in!

The following information is from Steampunk Journal.Org  Please visit thier website for more information & for more awesome Steampunk information!

"Parasol Duelling is a steampunk sport that was created in Canada by Maxwell MacDonald-Smythe (Kevin Jepson) and Madame Saffron (Jayne Barnard). Most of the sport is played there in Alberta where the Parasol Duelling World Championship takes place, although there have been listings and interest in the UK and Australia.

The game play is solely for women, but there has been whispers of Cane Duelling being set up. Time will tell.

The cut and thrust of the game is to display prowess with a Parasol in three separate categories:

  1. Compulsory Figures

  2. Flirtation

  3. Duels

Ladies under 16 years of age are allowed to enter, but in order to maintain modesty at Her Majesty the Queen Victoria’s pleasure, they are not allowed to contend in the Flirtation trails. In the other two sections, they are treated equally with their older rivals.

Should you wish to indulge in a little light fiction, the game has an entire back story hailing back to the Victorian age. You can read all about it on Gears, Goggles and Steam.

The Facebook page for the Canadian sport is Madame Saffron Hemlock’s Parasol Duelling League for Steampunk Ladies."
